St. Maarten – “I am not in breach of any campaign rule,” United People’s party candidate Franklin Meyers told this newspaper yesterday in a reaction to our report that the police will ask the Ministry of Vromi to remove political billboards from roundabouts. Meyers, the number 3 on the UP-list and a former Commissioner of Public Health, said that he had not received any call about his campaign billboards. “The agreement is that our party-representative, Tatiana Arrindell, would call individual candidates whose billboards have to be moved. If my billboards are in the wrong place I will move them, I have no problem with that.” Meyers said he discussed the issue with police officer Gout who is in charge of the matter. “As long as you did not receive a call from Tatiana, your posters are not in conflict with anything, he told me. And I did not receive a call, and my posters are not obstructing anything.” Meyers said that he will make his position on the issue clear in a full page ad. Yesterday we reported that the Meyers-billboard at the Firgos roundabout stood in what seemed to be a gray area – it was just a little bit removed from the roundabout where billboards of UP-Minister Maurice Lake and USp-candidate Anna Richardson are waiting to be removed.
